Officials in a North Carolina coastal town hope a former strip club can find new life as a branch campus of a community college. Brunswick Community College president Steve Greiner told the StarNews of Wilmington for a story Saturday that Close Encounters in Calabash was bought for $1 million from its South Carolina owners. Greiner said the 15,000-square-foot building will be renovated for continuing education classrooms and should open this year.

A victims advocacy group will hold a memorial service Sunday night for the Rocky Mount woman whose remains were found earlier this month in Halifax County. Deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office found the body — identified last week as 43-year-old Christine Boone — in a wooded area March 5 behind the former Scotland Neck home of Antwan Maurice Pittman. Pittman has not been charged in Boone's death.

Kyung Ae Kang, 38, and Mei Hua Jin, 42, both with addresses listed at the Oriental Spa/Message Therapy at 59 Starr Road, were taken into custody by police. The two were committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.

A prostitute has been jailed for 21 days after complaining of breaking her nails at community work and failing to carrying out voluntary work at a Wanganui primary school. Tala Jepsen, 19, appeared in New Plymouth District Court for re-sentencing after pleading guilty to two breaches of community work. Davis, also known as Johnny Carter, 28, 5211 Tolliver, Springfield, Mo.; Carmelita C. Parker, 24, 6446 Marshfield, Chicago; Kenedra R. Harris, 20, 1054 W. 63rd St., Chicago; and Octavia M. Anderson, 33, 445 Prairie St., Calumet City. Each was charged with conspiracy to commit forgery.
